I can listen to just about everything... however here are some of the artists I enjoy (the order is irrelevant)...

    Celine Dion
    Anggun
    Dido
    Oliver Shanti
    Sting
    Maggie Rilley
    Lonestar
    Eagles
    Loreena McKennitt
    Eric Clapton
    Nina Simone
    Billie Holliday
    Bryan Adams
    Amedeo Minghi
    Chris Isaak
    Deep Forest
    Era
    Fleetwood Mac
    Gary Moore
    Enya and Moya Brennan
    Sarah McLachlan
Van Morrison ("Someone like you" has been designated the song I'll start my weading with... now all I have to do is find someone I could sing that song to)
    U2
    Leonard Cohen
    and a lot of others...
    "What is love?"
"The total absence of fear," said the Master.
    "What is it we fear?"
    "Love," said the Master.

Beta has the best taste in music.

I go more on the music itself than the artists. Some of my favorite albums... in no particular order:
Ponselle Prima Voce - A compilation of recordings of soprano Rosa Ponselle (Opera)
Inspiration Information - Shuggie Otis (Funk-Rock-Psychedelic - look him up!)
Lady Day: The Best of Billie Holiday - A compilation of recordings of Billie Holiday (Jazz)
    In Utero - Nirvana (Rock)
This Girl's In Love With You - Aretha Franklin (Soul)
    Surfer Rosa - The Pixies
Piano Concertos no. 2 and 3 - Dmitri Yablonsky and the Russian State Symphony Orchestra (Classical)
Live at Fillmore East - The Allman Brothers Band (Southern Rock)
Blue Wild Angel: Live at the Isle of Wight - Jimi Hendrix (Rock)
La Traviata: sung in Russian - Alexander Ivanovich Orlov, Alexander Melik-Pashaev, composed by Giussepe Verdi (Opera)
Raw Power - Iggy and the Stooges (Rock)
Carmen - Solange Michel, Michel Dens, Raoul Jobin, composed by Georges Bizet
Black Fire - Kalyi Jag (Hungarian Gypsy Music)
Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan (Folk)
The Harlem Nutcracker - Dave Berger and the Sultans of Swing, composed by Duke Ellington (Jazz)
Symphony no. 14 - Czech-Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, composed by Dmitri Shostakovitch (Modernist)
Grace - Jeff Buckley (Rock - one of the greatest albums ever produced)
    ... and many more!

Why necessarily "harsh"? Why not an intense emotional atmosphere?

Anyway, Tori Amos and Regina Spektor.

I completely agree, but unfortunately he's dead.

Anyway the most beta band ever is Rage Against the Machine, imho. I'd say alpha/beta, just on the peak of Ti/Fe creative.

id concider radiohead alpha....assuming i was stupid enough to try to assign bands to quadras

okay yes, certain feelings are envoked, and thoughts, with different music. which can allow you to catagorize them with quadra values.

but no, because bands write different songs. they have different sounds for each song (normally) and also, a lot of bands allow all the band members to write their own songs. so if anything is to be typed here, its the people who write and play the music.

I think a lot of the band members from radiohead are INFp, though the general music feels Alpha I suppose.

I don't know if one could call these bands "beta", but here are a few of my favorites:

    NIN (Trent may be INFP)
    Tool
HIM (dark romanticism - very INFP)
    Tori Amos
    Regina Spektor
    Soundgarden
    Disturbed
    Coldplay (Chris Martin - ENFJ)
    The Beatles
Sigur Ros (dreamy, ethereal, and altogether exquisite)

And my craving for shows itself in my love for Pink (ESTP singer), thrash metal, techno, and the occasional bump 'n grind rap song .

    Okkervil River
    Wu Tang Clan
    The Decemberists
    Bjork
    A perfect Circle/Tool

I'm a lover of music, so my list stretches far and wide but the groups i named are ones I never get tired of.

I luv placebo's song "Post Blue". I think The Frey, Vega4, Nickelback, Maroon 5, Evanescence are all excellent bands.

Just a Note: In most of the music-to-quadra threads in which Radiohead is mentioned, it usually is in fact put into Beta. And I happen to agree.

radiohead rocks! I listened to ok computer today and the offtimed guitar on track 5 is really neat. A few friends of mine played a cover of 'ok computer' on halloween one year and i did all the lighting. It kind of sucked because they played drab music to a bunch of dressed up teenagers who couldn't give a shit less. but the lights were great.

By saying that a certain thing is/was a (*****) quadra, all it means that the time/thing exemplified the quadra elements/the time period/country has the quadra elements at the forefont of it's expression.

Honestly, how is that so hard to understand??

Beta music...I think metal, emo, and rap most immediately (this compiles most of my Beta friends listen to), but obviously it can't be limited by those categories.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Actually, Billy Joel would probably be Beta. How's that work for you?

Mika - Love Today (he's probably an ENFj.)

    Lyrics
I've been crying for so long,
Fighting tears just to carry on,
But now, but now, it's gone away.

Hey girl why can't you carry on, (carry on)
Is it cuz you're just like your mother,
A little tight, like to tease for fun, (tease for fun)
Well you ain't gonna tease no other,
    Gonna make you a lover!

    Everybody's gonna love today,
    love today, love today.
    Everybody's gonna love today,
Anyway you want to, anyway you've got to,
Love love me, love love me, love love.
Girl in the blue with the big bust on
Big bust on, big bust on.
Wait till your mamma and your papa's gone,
    Papa's gone!
Mamma, mamma papa, shock shock me,
    Shock shock me, shock shock.

    Everybody's gonna love today,
Gonna love today, gonna love today
    I said,
Everybody's gonna love today, gonna love today,
Anyway you want to, anyway you've got to,
Love love me, love love me, love love.

    Carolina sits on '95,
Give her a dollar and she'll make you smile.

    [ Lyrics found on http://www.metrolyrics.com ]

Hook her, book her, nook her, walk away!

Girl dresses like a kid for fun, (kid for fun)
Licks her lips like they're something on them (something on them)
Tries to tell you life has just begun, (just begun)
Now you know she's getting something other
Than the love from her mother

    Everybody's gonna love today,
    Love today, love today
    Everybody's gonna love today,
Anyway you want to, anyway you've got to,
Love love me, love love me, love love.

Girl in the blue with the big bust on,
Big bust on, big bust on.
Wait till your mamma and your papa's gone,
    Papa's gone
mamma, mamma papa, shock shock me,
Shock shock me, shock shock me

    Everybody's gonna love today,
Gonna love today, gonna love today

    [Everybody's gonna love today,
    Gonna love today,
Anyway you want to, anyway you've got to,

Life On Mars Lyrics (David Bowie)

It's a God awful small affair
To the girl with the mousey hair,
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
And her daddy has told her to go,
But her friend is no where to be seen.
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seats with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen,
But the film is sadd'ning bore
For she's lived it ten times or more.
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on

    Sailors
    Fighting in the dance hall.
    Oh man!
    Look at those cavemen go.
    It's the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman
    Beating up the wrong guy.
    Oh man!
    Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
    Is there life on Mars?

    It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow.
Now the workers have struck for fame
    'Cause Lennon's on sale again.
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibeza to the Norfolk Broads.
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns,
But the film is a sadd'ning bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more.
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

    Sailors
    Fighting in the dance hall.
    Oh man!
    Look at those cavemen go.
    It's the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman
    Beating up the wrong guy.
    Oh man!
    Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show.
    Is there life on Mars?

Instead of fire - there's only smoke.
    Instead of warmth - cold.
Another day is crossed out on the calendar grid.
The red shining sun has completely burned out,
And this day goes out with it,
And over a glowing city, the shadow will fall

    Changes!
It's the demand of our hearts.
    Changes!
It's the demand of our eyes.
In our laughter, in our tears, and the pulse in our veins.
    Changes!
    We waiting for changes!

Bright electric light continues our day,
And the box of matches is empty,
But in the kitchen, like a blue flower, gas burns.
Cigarettes in our hands, tea on the table,
    So this scheme is easy,
And there's nothing more left, it's all up to us.

    Changes!
It's the demand of our hearts.
    Changes!
It's the demand of our eyes.
In our laughter, in our tears, and the pulse in our veins.
    Changes!
    We waiting for changes!

We cannot brag about the wisdom in our eyes,
And our gestures are not very skilled,
But even without all of that - understanding remains.
Cigarettes in our hands, tea on the table,
That's how the circle is filled,
And suddenly we've become scared to change something.

A song without words, a night without dreams,
All in due time come winter and spring
Each star has its own part of the sky,
Each sea has its own share of rain,
Every apple has a place to fall,
Each thief will have an opportunity to steal,
Every dog has a stick and a bone,
And every wolf has teeth and anger...

Again, it's a white day outside,
This day calls me to fight,
I feel, as I close my eyes, -
The world is at war with me...

If there is a herd, there's also a shepherd
If there's a body, there should be a soul,
If there's a step, then there should be a footprint
If there's darkness, there should be light
Do you want to change the world
Can you accept it as it is,
Will you rise and step out of the common crowd,
Will you sit on an electric chair, or a throne?

there are 3 levels of sword mastery :
1.: ability to win with sword in your hand.
2.: ability to win without sword in your hand, but in your soul.
3, and the hightest one: without having sword nor in hand not in soul be able to win and bring peace to people.

    Linkin Park
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

On the coast opposite of sadness
    is something called a smile

On the coast opposite of sadness
    is something called a smile
But before we can go there,
is there something we’re waiting for?

We have to an embark on a journey for that far away summer’s day
Not to run away, but to pursue our dreams

No matter what tomorrow has in store for us, we must not despair
Because like a boat that opposes the stream
we have to walk straight on

In a place worn down by sadness
something called a miracle, is waiting
    We are still searching
for the sunflower that grows at the end of spring

The warrior awaits the break of daylight
before he can clasp it with red nails, his tears glitter and fall

Even if we’ve grown used to loneliness
only relying on the light of the moon
We have to fly away with featherless wings
just go forward, just a little further

    After the rainclouds disperse
    the wet streets sparkle
Just like how the powerful light guiding me in the darkness
    propels me forward.

Why do you try to carry all these wounds on your small shoulders?
Don't lose sight of yourself just for others
Why is it that when I'm lost,
I can't seem to break free?
All I yearn for is the light, the light...

    FIND THE WAY
If you can’t reach the glittering sky with your hands
Rely on the love that echoes within
and push ahead on this road till you find the light
    YOU’LL FIND THE WAY

You said you had a long dream
    a very sad dream
Yet your figure doesn't show a trace of sorrow
I'm telling you, it's okay to cry
I'll always be here for you
All I want is to take your hand, your hand...

    FIND THE WAY
Even if there are no words, no wings to fly with
    Don't lose to that tornado
You only need to understand your pain better than anyone else

Surely, there’s no answer for everything
But there’s no reason for you, to be impatient about it...

    FIND THE WAY
If you can’t reach the sparkling sky with your hands
Rely on the love that echoes within
and push ahead on this road till you find the light
    FIND THE WAY
Even if there are no words, no wings to fly with
    Don't lose to that tornado
push ahead on this road, and you will certainly find the light... YOU’LL FIND THE WAY
