    I will have to opt out of the Zoom meeting this time ⏰️ due to poor time management. Who knew that time has a finite duration? ⏲️ ⌛️

    Next time, I will need a week's advance notice once the book club book chooses a book because that's about how long it takes my local library to dial up the Pony Express to get me my book, like in the Era of Good Feelings. Or A.D. 1885 of Back to the Future Pt III ft. Michael J. Fox.

    "What's 150 years when you've been around for 4,000?" (Doctor Who, "The Stones of Blood Pt. 3" ft. Tom Baker).

    I have a really hard time reading a book I'm not interested in. I dislike most books and if I dislike it, I can't suffer through it. My brain can't turn on the rational part and just read it logically or even to make fun of it if I dislike it. I couldn't get through the Twilight books because I thought they were so awful, and I thought the author came across like a Fi pretentious douche. And I'm more of a writer than a reader. I know people say 'to be a good writer you should read more' but I think that's just a manipulative tactic authors use so you will buy their books idk.

    I love authors who are genuinely humble. Like not forced tryhard to be humble, but it's just so natural. Like 99.9999% of books have this pretentiousness that I can't bear. So I won't put up with it. I was criticized before from running away from things I don't like but I don't care. Why should I just be this docile goy to your narcissism? I am the narc not you. j/k

    I've read the book now. Pretty good, I could definitely discuss it.

    The decisive thing is not the reality of the object, but the reality of the subjective factor, i.e. the primordial images, which in their totality represent a psychic mirror-world. It is a mirror, however, with the peculiar capacity of representing the present contents of consciousness not in their known and customary form but in a certain sense sub specie aeternitatis, somewhat as a million-year old consciousness might see them.

    @Tallmo Want to write up your thoughts here? If anyone's interested, maybe you can also organize a video/audio discussion. As I've mentioned though, I can't make it this weekend unfortunately.

    I've been slightly busy lately, but I'll try to write my thoughts tonight. I'd be interested to read others' as well.

    Yes I'll write something when I have the time. If people really want video meeting also maybe better to wait until you can participate also.

    @Tallmo

    Sorry for the late reply. I was busy this weekend, and I've only half-written up the book. Sorry for not getting it in when I said. But if you or anyone else is interested in a video meeting this weekend, I can probably make it.

    @Tallmo If a local library owns it, I can probably read it in a sitting. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain takes ~3hrs to read in one sitting and this volume is smaller. In a good way.

    Thanks for the meeting! It was fun.

    I got the honor to decide the next book.

    Since last book was Canadian I thought I'll choose a book from my part of the world. I also happen to like the book.

    We will read "Barabbas" by Pär Lagerkvist. The book was published in 1950. Author is Swedish. It tells the story of Barabbas who according to the Bible was pardoned instead of Jesus.

    It should be quite easy to get a copy. The book is available in English and other languages in many public libraries around the world. You can also get it from Internet Archive. If you log in you can borrow an e-copy.

    It's on the shorter side. Under 200 pages. Easy to read.

    If you intend to read it you can like this post.

    I hope you've found the book or some online resource for "Barabbas" by Pär Lagerkvist. I suggest that we give it 2 weeks and then I'll check back to this thread and see how it's going. The book is easy to read, the language is much simpler than "Bear", although the book is very serious. But I think 2 weeks from today is realistic. After that we can set a date for a discussion depending on how far we have gotten.

    This slipped my mind -- I was moving and having to get a job; apologies.

    Have you (or anyone else) finished? The 2-week deadline has passed, but would another date work for anyone?

    I am reading the book, but I still need time. I didn't mean it as a definite deadline. What about you all? Are you reading and how is it going. I hope we can keep this project alive and finish the book and meet online again and discuss it.

    @Great, @Poptart, @godslave

    And what about you, @Adam Strange, you said you wanted to join the club for the next book.

    If I may I would recommend Nick Cole's "Strange Company" series.

    Glenn Cook with a Sci-Fi twist and a healthy amount of modern knowledge. Sargant Orion resonated with me for darn good reason. Dude's an ILI through and through...
