Another translation I've read said 'It's cold penetrating view is difficult for it to maintain.' which seems to reflect my own experience better. I am self-conscious about the stare and hate fixing it on people. Which is closer to the Russian meaning?
By the way, Expat, the authors of all these descriptions should be "Valentina Meged and Anatoly Ovcharov."
